Making a (Temporarily) Itinerant Academic Life Feel At Home
Before settling into my position as Assistant Professor of Italian Studies at UT Austin, I spent three years in a series of visiting positions: in London, Baltimore, and Providence. I found two amazing places through SabbaticalHomes in London, and they were gorgeous, more beautiful than any places I had rented on longer leases. I was in London for two three-month periods, so it was also great to be able to live in two beautiful homes in two very different parts of the city -- Shepherd's Bush and Walthamstow. In Providence RI I rented an apartment in a well-maintained Victorian with charming period details and a garden close to Brown's campus and across the street from the best bagels in town. I liked it so much there I rented it again the following summer. I can't say enough good things about SabbaticalHomes -- I'm so grateful that the site helped me find homes I could settle into with ease, where I felt grounded enough to really enjoy getting to know new cities and institutions and people.
