This charming, fully furnished apartment is in a four-unit house on a quiet side street a five-minute walk from Harvard Square, the Charles River, the MBTA subway and bus lines. The first floor has a living room and eat-in-kitchen, the second floor the bedroom and spacious bathroom. Hardwood floors throughout, and fully equipped with linens, plates, glassware and cutlery, desk and pullout sleeper sofa in the living room. The apartment has its own entrance, as well as a small exclusive-use garden, laundry and storage. The 1840s house has three rentals and an artist's studio; it's on a short one-way street, so the immediate neighborhood is relatively quiet (and entirely residential). Over the years the tenants have almost entirely been academics or researchers, many of whom have worked at least in part from home, so quiet is extremely important. The apartment is best-suited for a single tenant, though a couple could make the space work; the key requirement is that the tenant is quiet and values the general quiet of the house. The stairs from the garden up to the front door and the two inside staircases are steep (it's an old house!), so a tenant needs to be comfortable with them. The owners live a half-mile away in Cambridge (and also occupy the studio), so are able to respond quickly to problems. Tenants are responsible for their own snow shoveling and putting the trash barrels on the street for pickup.
