Lovely, comfortable house exactly 2 miles straight up Prospect St. from Yale—easy bike ride, walk, or Yale shuttle ride to campus and downtown, ten minute walk to two beautiful parks in the middle of New Haven’s fanciest neighborhood. East Rock (where grad students love to live/eat/hang out) is about a mile away. It’s easy to live here without a car, especially if you’re comfortable biking (we are blocks from the Farmington Canal Trail, which goes to campus and downtown New Haven in one direction and all the way to Hartford in the other, passing big box stores, breweries, public libraries and lots of charming little towns on the way). We have two bikes you’re welcome to borrow while you’re here. Our house was built in 1950 by a Yale architecture professor—from the street it looks like an adorable little shoebox, but inside you’ll find two bedrooms, two offices, two recently redone full bathrooms, a bright, well-appointed kitchen, a dining area, and a big living room with glass doors that open onto a deck ideal for reading, sunbathing, dinner parties, etc. Lots of books and lots of light in all seasons. The layout lets two people work comfortably from home (we do, every day!) without annoying each other. We have the house set up with one bedroom, two offices, and a TV room/library, but the layout is flexible. Talk to us about what you need and we’ll do our best to accommodate. Huge mature trees; amiable, quiet neighbors. Our fenced back yard feels utterly private and attracts a remarkable variety of birds. (Species list available upon request!) It’s quiet enough and dark enough to sleep with the windows open, as we do whenever weather permits. There’s also a front porch, off-street parking, high speed internet, a smart TV, good wireless speakers, a propane grill, washer/dryer, dishwasher, fancy Japanese washlet (iykyk), and central a/c. We will clear out closets and drawer space for you to use, but anticipate that you will be comfortable living among our possessions. If you need more storage space, or plan to bring a lot of books, just ask. If you’re affiliated with Yale, this is the perfect house for you. If not, you should still take advantage of our proximity to campus by attending talks/lectures/readings/performances, seeing movies, visiting museums, or using the campus libraries and gym. (These last two charge non-Yalies a reasonable fee for borrowing privileges or membership, though anyone can enter and use the libraries at no cost. The rest—movies, museums, talks, readings, etc—are all free (!), and wonderful.) New Haven is an underrated city, with excellent restaurants and tons to recommend it. Trains to Grand Central in NYC are frequent and take about two hours. Boston and Providence are also two hours away. We love it here and hope you will too.
