Pula is a beautiful and gritty historic town on the northern coast of Adriatic and a capital of province of Istria that occupies the peninsula of the same name. It is a green oasis in northwest Croatia known for its cuisine, olives, wine and truffles. There is a well connected regional airport, as well as seasonal boat connection with Venice. The apartment is located in a historic center, in a pedestrian zone, immediately behind Forum and Augustus temple that is one of the best preserved artifacts of ancient Roman architecture. The apartment is on the second floor in a well maintained 19th century building that used to be a hotel when Istria was a part of Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. All rooms face the glimmering sea and the shipyard Uljanik across the street. Just behind the apartment is Riva promenade offering walkways, marina and beautiful sunsets. All the significant ancient Roman, Venetian and Austro-Hungarian monuments are within walking distance, such as Arena amphitheater and Golden Gate (Arch of the Sergii ). Pula's fortress and park Kastelet - with panoramic views of the town, the shipyard, the sea, and the Roman amphitheater, is in immediate vicinity. Plenty of outdoor cafes, restaurants, galleries, music venues, and a nice city public library. Small grocery stores are nearby, bakeries too, as well as a 'wonderful open air town main market. For larger supermarkets and other shopping one can take a public bus, line 1. The apartment is fully furnished. High ceilings throughout and bamboo hard floors. Large living room and a kitchen, and two spacious bedrooms, one of which can be an office /guest room (it has a quality built bed platform with two twin beds). In addition to bathroom, there is a small guest toilet. The mostly rocky and graveled beaches shaded with pine trees are nearby - easily reachable by regular public buses, bicycle, or by uber (or about forty minutes on foot). Beaches have free access and are part of a large Lungomare promenade that is ideal for long walks, biking and other activities. Typical swimming season in the clean Adriatic is from May until October. Ideal for academics interested in Mediterranean history and culture who want to combine research and vacation in a unique location.
