We love our neighborhood. We are steps from a variety of restaurants and thrift, antique and coffee shops. Our neighborhood is extremely diverse. Half a block from Loyola. There is an express bus to Northwestern. Bike to downtown in 45 minutes. Take the bus and be downtown in 15 minutes. Take The redline and be downtown is 35 minutes. From our apartment you cannot hear the noise of the city because the sound of the waves covers it up. Our apartment is very sunny with mostly southern exposures over looking a beautiful park with a lovely cafe. Honestly, we have one of the best views in all of Chicago. Look south to the skyline or east to unobstructed water views. Here are the potential draw backs. No central air. We have two window units that keep the place pretty cool. In the hottest part of the summer, our place is a little warm, but tolerable, I think. There is no assigned parking. There is a garage across the street that offers monthly spaces. When I last checked, it was $250/month. We manage to find street parking, but it can be a challenge. There is free laundry downstairs (6 machines and 6 dryers). Our apartment is on the 4th floor of a walk up. We are 4 blocks north of a the lakefront path and a park that stretches from our neighborhood all the way downtown. An easy walk to Thai food, Ethiopian food, an old school pizza joint (excellent thin crust tavern style), one of the best coffee shops in town, Whole Foods, Aldi, and Loyola Beach Park where the neighborhood residents stroll down the boardwalk on pleasant evenings to enjoy the lakefront. The building has a private beach and a very large lakefront patio. It is great for watching the fourth of July Fireworks or enjoying dinner on a summer evening. We love to cook and our kitchen has everything you would need including a food processor, a blender, toaster oven and basic accessories. We love our neighbors.
