A short 15-20 minutes away in Charlemont, Mass are two water rafting or zip-lining recreation offerings, or skiing or snowboarding in Berkshire East Mountain Resort. It is about an hour or so from various skiing resorts in Vermont. If you want access to cultural events, the house is 30 minutes from Mass MOCA, the Clark Art Institute, historic Deerfield, Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts; and, the Marlboro Music Festival and Brattleboro or Bennington in Vermont.
