This magical home is perched on 31 acres on the side of Bear Mountain, surrounded by miles of conservation land, hiking trails, and cross-country skiing possibilities in winter. It is an oasis for tranquility and wildlife (fox, bobcat, porcupine, heron, beaver, bear, coyote, and more). It is 15 minutes from the vibrant downtown of Brattleboro and 25 minutes to Keene, where wonderful co-operative grocery stores, arts, restaurants, and more can be found. The two-story main house is luxuriously appointed with high-speed internet, tall ceilings and vast windows with nothing but trees and mountains in view, full kitchen with eat-in bar, dining room, king bedroom with adjustable Nectar frame, single bedroom, full bath with shower and large tub, 3/4 bath, plush pull-out queen couch bed, and a huge patio with grill, table, chairs, and sweeping views. Amenities include new wood stove, full laundry, dishwasher, large soaking tub, and ample parking. The house has private well and septic, public power, high speed Starlink internet, and generator back-up. This is a hiker's paradise. There are woodland trails on the property and vast hiking options on conserved land straight out the door. The Wantastiquet-Monadnock trail (50 miles) runs close by the house and connects Brattleboro to Mt. Monadnock. In one direction, walk the Bear Mountain connector to Pisgah State Park (2.4 mi) to access more than fifty miles of trails and gorgeous swimming lakes. In the other direction, hike to Moon Ledge (1.5 mi), Madame Sherri Forest (1.5 mi), Indian Pond (more great swimming! 2 mi), Mine Ledge (3 mi), Wantastiquet summit (4 mi), downtown Brattleboro (6 mi), and much more. In winter (Dec.-April), it is the last house on a country road that closes to vehicles in one direction, with potential for cross-country skiing out the door. Important notes: The house is serenely located off of a well-maintained dirt county road and up a 1/8 mile private gravel driveway. We hire a local plow to clear the final section of road and driveway during storms. If you want to book the house in the winter months (roughly Dec-April), you must have a 4WD vehicle and experience driving in snow conditions. I am an art history professor and I share this home with my husband, a non-profit creative director, for part of each year. We love it and we hope you will treat it with the same reverence!
