Welcome to my light-filled, modern, renovated apartment in a classic Parisian building in the heart of old Paris, an ideal location for stays near the universities, Pantheon, Notre Dame, Rue Mouffetard, Latin Quarter and the Seine. This is my primary home, and a few times each year when I travel, I make it available to people who come to Paris with a purpose or focus — whether to study, write, research or pursue projects — and I simply ask that it be cared for with the same respect you would give your own home or any friends’ place. The apartment has the best qualities of classic Parisian homes: high ceilings, tall windows peering out upon a classic right bank wide street lined with Haussmannian facades, original details, and abundant natural light. This is paired with a modern renovation, tasteful furniture and high-end recently updated appliances (dishwasher, fridge, freezer). You avoid the feeling of staying in a grandmother’s flat — no clutter, no dated decor — instead offering a simple, minimalist space that’s easy to settle into. There is a large dining and salon area with a balcony with a balcony with a direct view of Notre Dame, a separate bedroom and a separate, fully equipped kitchen and marble-tiled bathroom, all recently renovated by an interior architect. The furnishings are high quality and aesthetic. Double-paned windows keep it peaceful indoors, even while the city moves just outside. The length of the apartment faces the street, which allows for ample natural light to pour into the dining area, living area and sizeable bedroom. The bathroom, small entry hallway and kitchen are on the interior side of the apartment which get less light. The bedroom has blackout curtains. It’s on the 4th fl. w/ elevator. The neighborhood is one of the most vibrant in Paris, and in my view, one of the best. Within a block you’ll find bakeries, butchers, cheese shops, florists, a supermarket, and cafés and restaurants where it’s worth becoming regulars. Three days a week the open-air market at Place Monge brings fresh produce, meats, fish, flowers, and the rhythm of local life. A short walk takes you to the Pantheon, the Sorbonne, the Latin Quarter, Luxembourg Gardens, or the National Library. Within five minutes by foot you’ll find the Jardin des Plantes (one of the city’s best hidden refuges full of Cyprus trees and a botanical garden originally planted for the king's medicine cabinet) and the Natural History Museum. Around the corner is the historic Roman arena, the Arenes de Lutece as well as a coworking space inside a renovated historic mansion, open to anyone. The metro is one minute from the front door. The building itself is well maintained, and the neighbors are friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately my home cannot accommodate children. And as much as I love furry friends, I cannot welcome them either—nor smoking—into the apartment. There’s a laundry machine and racks to hang dry. Like in most Parisian apartments, the stove is induction and the microwave doubles as a convection oven. You are welcome to read the books on the shelf, but I ask you to not take them with you as they are like family. You’ll have an empty closet with hangers to hang and store clothes. Other important details: A few minor upgrades since the photos were taken: the white IKEA curtains in the living room are now designer linen in teal and the rug a designer cream colored beni ourian and the bed is a brand new high quality French Queen size mattress (the one in the photo is a double). About me: I’m an American living in Paris for the past 5 years. I’m a writer, I work in communications, and I’m pursuing postgraduate studies in contemplative philosophy and science of the mind. I hold a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University and earlier studied European intellectual history at Wesleyan. I’m originally from Berkeley, California and spent much of my life living in New York and San Francisco.
