Historic Artist's Home in Northern Tuscany - 30 Minutes from the Sea We offer our light-filled, characterful home built in 1809, nestled among medieval structures once belonging to the noble Malaspina family in the mystical Lunigiana region of Northern Tuscany. Just kilometers away, Dante found refuge and wrote passages of the Divine Comedy in this very landscape. The nearby Gulf of Poets inspired the English Romantics - Mary Shelley conceived Frankenstein here, while Byron swam these legendary waters. The House (ideal for 2-4 guests): ☀️ Surrounded by enchanted forests, yet only 30 minutes from beaches 🏠 Living room with open fireplace, spacious kitchen, bathroom, 2 bedrooms, plus guest mattress 🌅 Large east-facing terrace with breathtaking views - perfect for shaded afternoons 🌿 Small west-facing garden terrace with kitchen pass-through - ideal for al fresco dining 🎨 Furnished with selected artworks (we are both practicing artists) What Makes Your Stay Special: • Natural river pools and waterfalls within walking distance • Hiking trails at your doorstep - UNESCO Biosphere under 60min away • Countless historic sites to explore • Strategic location: Pisa, Parma, Genoa, Florence all within 1-2 hours • Baia dei Poeti (30 min) and Cinque Terre National Park (40 min) • Choice of tranquil public beaches or elegant beach clubs (35-50 min) Location: Villa di Tresana (Sala di Tresana, Massa-Carrara) Getting Here: • Pisa Airport: 1 hour (car rental available) • Direct night train: Vienna to La Spezia (30 min from house) • Other airports: Genoa (1.5h), Milan (2.5h), Parma (1h), Florence (2h20min), Rome (4h) Village Amenities: • Cozy aperitivo bar with excellent food and weekly pop-up dinner kitchen (Wed-Sun in summer) • Bread/grocery truck visits house every second day • Fresh fish delivered bi-weekly • Deli, cafés, post office, bank, pharmacy - 10 min drive (Barbarasco) • Supermarket/shopping center - 15 min drive (Aulla) • Bus service to Aulla (3x daily) Transportation Note: While accessible by public transport, a car is highly recommended to fully explore this enchanting region. Rental cars are very affordable, especially off-season (October-April, often just €4/day including insurance). Electric vehicle charging stations are widely available throughout the area. This corner of Tuscany offers the perfect blend of mountain tranquility and coastal accessibility. Experience authentic Italian life away from tourist crowds, where medieval villages dot forested hillsides and the Mediterranean beckons just beyond. Perfect for academics seeking calm inspiration in the same landscapes that moved Dante, Shelley, and Byron to create their masterworks. For additional photos, see the dropbox link beneath.
