About Us We are longtime residents of Berkeley, have raised our family here, and appreciate the academic character of this town and the history of the area. We are a family of four (we have two high school-age sons) who live in the main house on the property. We built the studio to accommodate visiting family and friends, as well as to rent to visiting academics and professionals. Our home is situated in a tranquil, safe, residential neighborhood in the Elmwood/Rockridge area. We are thoughtful and respectful, valuing clear communication, a calm atmosphere, and mutual trust. We uphold values of diversity, open-mindedness, and kindness, and seek a tenant who shares them, too. We generally maintain a quiet household, work from home, and lead busy lives, making ourselves easily reachable by phone or text if anything urgent comes up, while also fully respecting your privacy and personal space. Our aim is for you to feel at home during your stay. About the Studio The studio is a private, self-contained space with its entrance via a shared deck behind the main house. It was remodeled in 2021 and is essentially brand new. It’s bright, clean, and tastefully furnished, and has large windows to the backyard and a majestic redwood just outside. The space features a kitchenette equipped with a 2-burner stove, a microwave convection oven, a sink, a full-size refrigerator, and all the necessary dishware and cooking essentials. There is a bedroom, a small dining area, a sitting area, a small desk, a private bathroom, and a large closet with a washer/dryer unit. The unit has a ceiling fan, air conditioning, and heat (which is rare for Berkeley!) The deck and stone patio/garden outside includes a sofa and dining table, Adirondack chairs, and a lovely gas fire pit. While the deck and stone patio/garden are shared and available for your enjoyment, we kindly ask for your consideration regarding our use of the outdoor space. We expect the main house residents to have priority use of the yard and that outdoor activities are generally quiet, particularly during evening hours after 9 PM. We value our good relationships with our neighbors. Electricity, trash/recycling, and high-speed internet (wifi) are included. Rent is due monthly. A security deposit equal to one month's rent is required upon signing a rental agreement. Location Nestled in one of Berkeley’s most beautiful and walkable neighborhoods, this studio offers a quiet and serene setting while being just steps from College Avenue. The UC Berkeley campus is a 25-minute walk (10-minute bike ride). There are tons of stores, restaurants, and cafes within a few blocks and a grocery stores around the corner. BART, the Bay Area’s rapid transit system connecting Berkeley to San Francisco and Oakland, is approximately a 15-minute walk away. The neighborhood is safe, friendly, and green, providing a perfect blend of natural tranquility and urban accessibility. It's an ideal location for professors and visiting scholars seeking proximity to the university without the bustle of undergraduate parties. Who We’re Looking For This studio is ideal for a single occupant or a couple, particularly visiting academics seeking accommodations for 1 to 9 months. We are seeking responsible tenants who will appreciate and care for the home, respect the peaceful neighborhood environment, and enjoy the amenities that Berkeley has to offer. Please note that this space is not suitable for loud parties or extensive socializing. Our property is non-smoking, and pets are not permitted. We ask tenants to ensure any guests are also mindful of our desire for a peaceful, shared space.
