If you are an academic who will be visiting/working/researching in Gainesville, Florida, during the winter/spring of 2026, and need a quiet, safe place to live, we might be a good fit. I am going to rent out the ground-floor master suite of my house—master bedroom, master bath, walk-in closet—and we will share the living and dining rooms, screened patio, and laundry room. If you have a car, you can either park it in the driveway or in the garage. I will drop a photo of the kitchen in the listing soon. The boxspring and mattress will be brand new. I will supply pillows, towels and sheets, though you are welcome to bring your own. The master suite looks out over the fenced backyard. There is a several-hundred acre tract of natural area behind the backyard. Nearly every day I see deer and wild turkeys (and even an otter!) in this subdivision. Gainesville has bike lanes all over the place...everywhere...and I have been happily and safely biking here for the past 10 months. I live upstairs in the three bedrooms and bath, and do use the kitchen and downstairs, but I'd say that 95+% of my time is spent upstairs. It is premature to talk about smoking (no, no smoking, vaping, whatever) or overnight guests (no). I moved to Gainesville specifically to research and write two books, and that's what I'm doing.

Comments: This is a quiet house in a quiet neighborhood. I regularly ride my bike to the UF campus, the grocery store, the farmers markets (there are several, with fresh, locally grown vegetables and fruits)...Gainesville is filled with trees and bike lanes!
