Gorgeous writers' retreat close to Cornell

This rental is for a sublet of my room in a cute 1930s farmhouse-style cottage on West Hill, suitable for a visiting scholar, post-doc, new assistant professor or advanced graduate student looking for a place to write and study for one semester (mid-August 2026 to January 2027). You will have use of the large master bedroom and a private office while the rest of the space will be shared with another housemate, who (like me) is an Assistant Professor in Arts and Sciences. The house is set on half an acre of forested land with a creek running through the back yard and a deck for dining and reading outside. The house has a good-sized kitchen, big dining room and spacious, well-lit living room. It also features a third bedroom / TV room with a pullout sofa for hosting guests. The house has lots of character yet is quite modern inside. All the bedrooms have large closets and the forced air heating and cooling system is efficient. It is currently more furnished than is evident from the photos, which were taken shortly after I moved in. From the house it is a short cycle to downtown and a 10 minute drive to Cornell (3.5 miles). You can also cycle along the lake to the Farmers' Market at the weekend. About 4 minutes away by car is Buttermilk Falls State Park, a beautiful place to hike, swim, and run. Ithaca Beer Company is just over a mile away and has a great beer garden overlooking a cornfield.
