Description

Open a large cedar gate, continue down a wood-chip path, observe a Garry Oak meadow in a large deer-proof garden with tall trees. Next to a burbling pond is the main entrance to the apartment. It is separate from the upper 2 floors of the house, with its own entrance, south-facing deck with bbq, and fruit trees. The apartment is on the lowest of 3 floors of our 1914 home, but is not a basement/underground suite in any way. It has full height ceilings and beautiful views of the garden. Every room has in-floor heating and a thermostat. The apartment is fully equipped, warmly decorated, and is used as a home for our family when we are not renting it. Both bedrooms each have a bathroom. The ensuite bathroom is large, with an antique claw foot tub, shower, loo, and pedestal sink. The second bathroom has an elegant shower, loo, and sink. The apartment has a full kitchen, including a full size fridge. One bedroom has a California King (extra large) bed. The other bedroom has a queen, (or potentially 2 twins, if requested) on a raised platform. This bed is on antique oak flooring, 32 inches up from the floor. There is one step to get up onto the bed platform. The distance from the mattress to the ceiling is about 4 feet. Please be aware that this floor is part of a large house with three distinct - and fully private - living areas. Each has its own fully private entry and is artfully furnished and used by our family as our cherished home when we are not renting it. As such, there may be up to three different - quiet - parties occupying the premises at any given time. We live in a leafy residential neighbourhood. Our street has only private homes with gardens and beautiful trees and wild deer. Shops, banks, pharmacy, restaurants etc. are all within walking distance. At the bottom of the road there is a bus that will take you straight to downtown in about 15 minutes, or to UVic in about 10 minutes. Camosun College is 4 blocks away, and the Royal Jubilee Hospital is about a 5 minute drive. And, we are very close to St Michael’s University School, and Landsdowne Middle School (French immersion). We are in an incredibly convenient location, while being in a park-like setting! Mt Tolmie Park is also close; good for walks, with panoramic views of Victoria, Mount Baker, the surrounding hills and of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. No traffic noise to speak of, at our house. Other parks nearby: Uplands Park, Cattle Point, Mystic Vale, Willows Beach, Cadboro Bay Beach: all seaside parks. The BC Ferries Swartz Bay terminal with service to Vancouver (and nearby Gulf Islands) is about a 40 minute drive from our house. Local and wild west coast beaches at Sooke are a pleasant 45 minutes drive away. The ferry to Port Angeles, USA, operates several times per day from downtown. Helijet helicopter and Harbour Air float planes leave for Seattle, Tofino, Vancouver and Whistler from downtown. The Victoria international airport is about 30 mins. Our home is a great place from which to explore the natural beauty of Vancouver Island! And did we mention the 3 golf courses within a 5-10 minute drive! Sorry, no pets. No smoking.
