Description

A conveniently-located and beautiful historic home (once featured on Apartment Therapy!), perfect for a visiting scholar/artist, or someone moving to Philadelphia for the first time. This 4-story Trinity apartment has everything you would want in a Philly stay. It includes all amenities (washer/dryer, dishwasher, central heat and A/C plus an extra A/C on the top floor) and is very well-cared for. The neighborhood is the best Philly has to offer: right in the middle of the very LGBTQIA-friendly Gayborhood and Washington Square West. It is mere feet away from the Magic Gardens on South St and close to many parks, coffeeshops, and restaurants. For those with dogs: this is a very dog-friendly neighborhood, and is steps away from one of the best dog parks in the city. To be honest, I would never want to live anywhere else in Philadelphia! I've lived in this house for 7 years and can attest that it is both a perfect introduction to Philly, and a perfect and quiet home-away-from-home. The house is a historic Trinity apartment: a style of rowhome housing that only exists in Philadelphia. All Trinity houses have three floors, but ours has a finished basement. The kitchen and washer/dryer are located in the basement, with a living room on the first floor, a bathroom with a bathtub (not standing shower, so perfect for luxurious baths!) and smaller bedroom/office space/guest bedroom on the second floor, and a giant master bedroom with original wooden beams located on the topmost/third floor. Three rooms have exposed brick and fireplaces, which unfortunately no longer work, but feel very cozy nonetheless. The floors are connected through a spiral staircase, which is another specific feature of Trinity apartments. So, there is a lot of walking up and down stairs, but you get used to it after just a few weeks at the most! The stairs are carpeted and with banisters so it is easier to grip. It is full of cozy nooks and architectural marvels. The house is actually over 220 years old, and part of an officially recognized historical neighborhood (Washington Square West), full of cobblestones, flowers, and mural art. The house has three couches-- a leather couch and sectional on the 1st floor, and a large couch on the second floor which converts to a Queen bed and is perfect for guests. The bed on the top floor is a King size and comes with a super comfy Casper mattress. The backyard is perfect for small outdoor gatherings, and was a life-saver during the worst months of COVID! It also comes with a propane grill, outdoor furniture, and two trees that flower beautifully in April and May: a dogwood and a lilac. Of course you are welcome to arrange anything to your liking. The second bedroom has been converted into an office space and second living room/den, but it can easily be reconfigured and made into a working second bedroom. We've been using a projector to watch films on the second floor, which creates a luxurious and fun movie theatre experience. There are two large closets and plenty of storage space throughout. This house is one of seven rowhomes connected through a courtyard. The courtyard itself is gated, which makes it exceptionally safe for packages/leaving bikes or anything outdoors. The courtyard is located on a car-free street, so noise is always kept to a minimum (the birds are truly the only noise you'll hear, despite being in the center of Philly!). It is right in the middle of much local transport in Philadelphia, a short walk to the most bustling parts of Center City and the cutest neighborhoods of South Philly/Passyunk. It is a 15-20 min commute via bus, train, or bike to West Philly and UPenn/Drexel, a 20-25 min commute to Temple/Temple Hospital, and a 5 min walk from Jefferson Hospital. It is also on the PATCO and a 5 min walk from Jefferson Station, for those commuting. Please reach out with any questions!
