Hello from Almería, Spain! 🇪🇸✈️🇦🇺 We are the Soriano-Maldonado family, and we are thrilled to be planning a life-changing family and professional adventure in Australia. Who We Are? We are a family of four who deeply value education, nature, and respect for our surroundings. Alberto: I am a Full Professor at the University of Almería, specializing in Research Methods in Physical Activity and Sport. My work focuses on how exercise can improve the lives of people with clinical conditions like cancer, lupus, or stroke. I lead several national research projects and have a passion for mentoring the next generation of scientists. My Wife: She is a dedicated Pharmacist, bringing a detail-oriented and caring touch to everything she does. Our Children: We have a 9-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son. They are curious, well-behaved, and incredibly excited about the prospect of attending an Australian school, making new friends, and perfecting their English. Our Australian Dream: The primary driver for our stay is professional; I have been honored with an invitation from Deakin University to collaborate on research projects in Melbourne for 6 months. This academic exchange is a milestone in my career, but for us as a family, it is so much more. We are a family of nature lovers. We are fascinated by Australia’s unique wildlife and stunning landscapes. Whether it’s exploring national parks or simply enjoying the local fauna and flora, we are eager to immerse ourselves in the Australian "outdoor" lifestyle. On a personal note, I was a competitive tennis player 20 years ago. One of my lifelong dreams has been to experience the Australian Open live in Melbourne—it would be a full-circle moment for me to finally visit the "Happy Slam" in January 2027. Why Exchange With Us? As homeowners of a recently renovated, high-end apartment in Almería, we understand the value of a well-cared-for home. We are: Extremely Respectful: We treat every home as if it were our own (or better!). Reliable: Given our professional backgrounds in Health and Academia, we are organized, clean, and communicative. Plant-friendly: We are more than happy to keep your indoor or outdoor plants thriving while you are away. We have 5 pots on our own terrace that require care, so we are well-versed in the routine! What We Are Looking For We are looking for a comfortable family home, ideally in or around Melbourne, to serve as our base while I work at Deakin University and the children attend school. We are looking for a "live like a local" experience where we can integrate into the community and explore the beautiful state of Victoria and beyond. We offer a stunning, newly renovated 150m² apartment in the heart of Almería, Spain, featuring a 30m² terrace, high-end technology (Airzone, 65" TV), and a central location perfect for exploring the Mediterranean coast.
