We are a French-American writer and Australian cartoonist who divide our time between Paris, the Ardèche, and Australia. We love to host people in our home wherever we are and are hoping that our apartment will be a quiet retreat for your research and writing needs! It's our haven, set up for contemplative creative work, with lots of books (English and French and Japanese) and art. We have a fully equipped kitchen and two bedrooms with new double mattresses, as well as a comfortable pull-out couch in the living room. There's a desk/work area in the living room and another small desk in one of the bedrooms. The dining table, which easily seats 6, is another good place to work. For us at least, our home offers the best of both worlds: it's an easy walk or metro ride to absolutely everything in the city, with lots of hustle and bustle when you feel like it, but once you get inside, it's calm and beautiful and serene. The terrace is the perfect place to have coffee or an outdoor meal - no parties please, as there are neighbors all around (and we like them!!). We have electric heat for the winter and fans for the summer - even in the sultry days of August, the apartment stays cool and comfortable. It has windows on three sides, which means that you can always get a nice cross breeze. The apartment is an old worker flat, so it's Parisian in its clunkiness (old wiggly wooden floors, small kitchen, big casement windows with double-glazed windows, etc.) Slick and modern it is not - although it's got an elevator and all the modern appliances - but if you are looking for classic charm and coziness, this is the place for you. Our building is a 3-minute walk to the Temple metro station (line 3); another minute and you are at République, a major metro hub with 5 metro lines, a taxi stand, and many city buses. Outside our building door is a tiny and fantastic coffee shop, and the street is lined with charming cafés, restaurants, and a great art book shop. The Carreau du Temple is across the road, offering a range of cultural activities, classes, and events. If you are working at the BNF, the Richelieu site is a direct metro ride, and the Mitterand site is an easy trip (we do it all the time...). Please do reach out if you have any questions! We'd love to tell you more....
