From the moment you open the door to Last Tres Monjas, entering the foyer at the back of the apartment, you’ll feel the welcome of this inviting, relaxing, comfortable and airy space. The three large bedrooms and main bathroom run along the pasillo that opens to the sky and brings in natural light. The rooms are fully furnished with comfy beds for two and an additional single bed in one bedroom (accommodating a total of 7 guests) and night tables and ample wardrobes to store your belongings during your stay. The tranquility of Las Tres Monjas and its elegant furnishings feel like Old Havana of another era, but the creature comforts are all up to date. Table lamps and dimmable overhead lighting let you set your preferred ambiance, and quiet individual split AC units allow you to control the environment in each bedroom for everyone to get a good sleep. One of the uncommon (for Cuba) things you’ll notice about the newly renovated Las Tres Monjas is the open-concept full kitchen+dining room+living room. Each space easily functions separately, but the design creates energy and easy communication. You’ll also notice the synthesis of old and new, integrating elements of art deco, colonial, mid-century and industrial. The building itself was constructed at the same time as the infamous Hotel Nacional, and was an interesting mix of styles from the outset. In the completely new and fully stocked kitchen, we introduced modern large and small appliances, and smooth pull-out cabinet drawers and a polished concrete floor. The original water heater is decorative, and our retrofitted system now supplies hot and cold water, with good pressure, throughout the entire apartment, 24 hours a day. We used original, replica and new lighting fixtures and controls for adjustable, efficient lighting. Cuban expert tradespeople patiently restored the plaster walls, mosaic tile floors, wood windows and doors and stained-glass windows to their original beauty, and these features are at the heart of Las Tres Monjas’ feeling of warmth and comfort—and a bit of luxury. The apartment features a large, custom-made dining table that easily seats 8+ and provides a great workspace as well. The antique escritoire does double duty as TV cabinet and folds out into a small desk. The main washroom was restored using the original sink and a replica tiles for the walk-in shower with handheld telephone-style or overhead rain shower. The second bathroom is off the common living space and has a toilet, sink and a handheld shower for a quick rinse. Enjoy the natural light and views from the restored windows, the exterior passageway and particularly the rooftop patio, where there's a pergola and chairs and tables (see photo). The apartment is completely private for the use of our guests only. You will be asked to provide identification (passport number, date of birth, etc.) on arrival and sign in to register your stay. These steps are in keeping with Cuban government policy.
