Description

Looking for a peaceful, characterful base in East London, 4 minutes' walk from the Elizabeth Line? I'm offering a lodger a private two-room suite in my light-filled Victorian home in the leafy Durham Road Conservation Area (E12). I live alone, so you'd share the house only with me. The Space You'll have a tidy double bedroom plus exclusive use of the large master room upstairs as your own living room and study. Both rooms are south-facing and full of natural light. The living room will be furnished with a comfortable sofa before you arrive, and I'm happy to add a desk or other furniture to suit you. Current photos don't yet show the final setup. A discreet alcove wardrobe holds some of my storage. I use the room for morning yoga (join me!) and the piano, but timings are entirely flexible. You'll also have a downstairs WC, a shared upstairs bathroom with a rainfall shower, and a large, fully equipped dine-in kitchen opening onto the back garden. The front garden has a beautiful wisteria. The back garden is a work in progress, and green thumbs are very welcome. Location 4 min walk to Manor Park (Elizabeth Line): Stratford & East Bank (V&A East, Storehouse) 6 min, Liverpool Street 16, Tottenham Court Road 21, Bond Street 23 4 min walk to Woodgrange Park (Suffragette Line) Bikes available to rent along the street Easy reach of universities, archives, museums, galleries, the City and hospitals Minutes from Wanstead Flats, Wanstead Park and Epping Forest: East London's Hampstead Heath Boutique cafés in Wanstead and superb regional cuisine in nearby East Ham About Me & the Home I'm in my 50s, a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in training, formerly a documentary filmmaker and fashion agent. I'm now working on creative projects as an author, filmmaker and artist. I speak English, French and Italian, have lived in Paris, Rome, Tokyo and Los Angeles, and know London well. I love sharing tips and places of interest. Home for me is calm and nourishing: quiet reflection punctuated by Bowie, classical music or Radio 4. The kitchen is the heart of the house. I love to cook, and there's often a dahl, caponata or seasonal soup on the hob that you're welcome to share, plus the odd takeaway. I'd love genuine connection, balanced with privacy for us both. That might mean shared meals, a glass of wine, conversation about ideas and the news, or a film together. I run an eco-aware, low-plastic household. I also volunteer at the local community garden and monthly litter pick, and you'd be welcome to join. Ideal Match Visiting academics and researchers who love their work and engage with the world. Stays from 1 week to longer term I work from home downstairs, so ideally you'll be at your institution, archive or library during the day Single occupancy, though your partner, friends or family may be able to visit if schedules allow, by prior arrangement only Clean, tidy and considerate As I'm health-vulnerable, you must be vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 Rent & Terms £1,500 per calendar month, or £375 per week for stays of 1–3 weeks Deposit £1,500 (negotiable for short stays) Included: high-speed Wi-Fi, water, Council Tax, a monthly cleaner for communal areas, and gas and electricity Please arrange your own contents insurance
