Location / Safety The location is about the best one can find in Washington. Our building is centrally located on the Red Line in a safe and–for the city–quiet neighborhood. One can find a park, grocery stores, caffés, and gyms within reasonable walking distance. There is no need for a car to shop or get around in the metropolitan area. For grocery shopping, etc. you are welcome to use the shopping cart in my storage bin. One could rent a car for longer trips. We have desk-service 24/7. This provides extra security and assistance at all hours and precludes the possibility of finding yourself locked outside because you've lost or forgotten the keys. The head desk clerk, on duty weekday mornings, is an invaluable source of information about the building and its systems (e.g., the heating / cooling). Elegance / Comfort The building, constructed in 1910, is a landmark and one of Washington's "Best Addresses." It is a quiet building governed by rules that safeguard each resident’s privacy and quiet. We do not play loud music, and we restrict conversation in the hall to a minimum. There is a lovingly tended roof garden with a view extending to the Washington cathedral and Rock Creek Park. The garden is furnished with chairs and umbrellas and is a great place to drink cocktails at sunset or to have dinner with a spouse or friend. In the basement, there is an exercise room with a several exercise bikes, two treadmills, some dumbbells, and other equipment. Laundry / Trash Every floor is equipped with a laundry room and a trash room. The laundry rooms contain one washer and dryer available from 9 A.M. - 8 P.M. In the basement, there are two washers and dryers available 24/7. The trash room adjoining the laundry on each floor contains a chute for trash that is properly bagged. No loose garbage should be sent down the chute. We carry boxes and newspapers to the basement, where there is a large trash room with trash and recycling bins. Furnishing My furniture is largely antique, much of it gifts from family and friends. Please protect it from damage by avoiding, to the extent possible, eating and drinking in the bedroom and while seated on the living-room upholstery. Please do not put glasses, cups, or plates directly onto wooden surfaces. I'll leave coasters! The kitchen is fully equipped. The pots and pans are all serviceable and safe for use though not in mint condition. There are dinner services of simple everyday style and fine glass and china. If you use the fine glass and china, please wash it by hand. In case any issues regarding water, the electricity, or the appliances should arise, I'll leave a list of service providers on whom I have relied. The desk may also be able to provide recommendations. Books / Records / Internet / T.V. You are welcome to use my library, though I advise caution in climbing the step-ladder, which cannot support more than moderate weight. There is a record player with a collection of vinyl 33's and a compact disc player. The internet is supplied by Verizon, which provides also the landline telephone. I'll leave you information regarding the internet connection. The television does not have cable. You may install a cable, but this must be done in such a way that it will be easy to remove. No holes may be drilled into walls or the (antique) floors. Plants I have many house plants, some of which are decades old. They require little beyond a weekly watering, but that watering is essential. If you would be willing to undertake this, I'll leave instructions. Otherwise, I can arrange to have my housekeeper come by at a mutually agreed time once per week. The greenery lifts the spirits and increases oxygen. This apartment is ideal for an individual or a couple. It is easy to get to, a pleasant place to reside and to entertain. Its convenience and comfort would much enhance the pleasure of a stay in Washington: Petruccionejfp@gmail.com.
