I'm a professor at USC, looking to sublet my apartment while I'm on leave this summer and fall. The apartment is a small two bedroom in one of LA's best neighborhoods—the old artists' haven of Echo Park. There's easy walking to coffee shops, restaurants, bars, book stores, vintage shopping, libraries. You can enjoy a poetry reading at Stories, debate your favorite taco vendor, see a show at the Echo, get churros from El Morro, ride a swan boat and hipster-watch at Echo Park Lake, or go for a hike in Elysian Park. Gorgeous hills, old homes, lowriders...I truly love this neighborhood! My apartment is a just a few blocks off Sunset, in an old house that's been divided into three apartments; the neighbors are great. The building is owned by friends. They're planning to do some exterior work (it needs paint and new windows) but not sure when that will happen— but they're super responsive about interior repairs. The apartment itself is small but comfortable—a nice thing is that the kitchen was remodeled with new appliances in 2021, and there's an in-unit washer and dryer. The front bedroom has a queen bed; the small second bedroom has a bunkbed (and not much more room). I've lived here with my two sons; it would be good for a couple with small kids or you could use the second bedroom as an office. There are window air conditioners. The backdoor opens directly onto a fenced backyard with a grill, pergola for shade, picnic table, and exercise bike, all of which are mine and available for you to use. I'm hoping for someone who will enjoy watering my plants! It's a mostly native garden and isn't fussy; it goes pretty dormant in the summer months and only needs to be watered once a week or so. Having the backyard makes the apartment live much larger than it otherwise— it's great for entertaining! Echo Park is also conveniently located to several freeways (the 110, 101, and 5), so it's easy to get to other parts of town— and this would be a great apartment for someone at the Huntington who wanted an LA home base! I'm happy to chat honestly about traffic issues and public transportation options. Note that my dog, Luna, appears in these pictures— but she'll be with me! (The outdoor pics show her in the backyard and out for a walk in Elysian, with a view of downtown.) If you have a pet you'd like to bring, let's figure out if it's a good fit and what a reasonable deposit might be. I'm gone from mid june until the end of December — I'm up for dividing this time if necessary. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions!

Comments: Echo Park is a vibrant and highly walkable Los Angeles neighborhood with easy freeway access — my apartment has its own appliances and a yard!
Comments: Does not include wifi!
Comments: One bedroom fits a queen bed and one bedroom has bunkbeds (and not much else!). I lived here comfortably withy my two young sons. The building is an old house divided into three apartments. Friendly neighbors!
The garden does best (and thus, the backyard will look nicest! )if you water once a week! It's mostly natural plantings though so will probably be fine if that's not your thing.
Comments: I'm amenable to a pet, depending on size! The backyard is fenced but not a place you could leave a dog unattended.
