Great location close to Harvard, Tufts, Brandeis, Boston University, and other area universities; on-site parking as well as excellent public transportation. Top-ranked public schools; 4-minute walk to Butler Elementary, school bus to Middle and High schools stops in front of house. Belmont is a progressive, diverse, well-run, welcoming town with a beautiful new library and outstanding schools. About us: we are an academic couple (an evolutionary biologist and an art professor/artist) and seek renters who will take good care of our home while we are working abroad in 2026-27; happy to provide a tour in person or via Facetime or Zoom. Located on a quiet street, the apt occupies the newly renovated 2nd and top floor of a 2-family 1924 house with refinished oak floors, oriental rugs and newly painted walls throughout. The sunny, open-plan main floor has an attractive living room, a dining room with a walnut table and 6 chairs, and a large kitchen, with a granite island for casual meals and all-new appliances. A short hallway leads to a large bedroom with Queen-size bed (linens provided), antique dresser, and closet. The adjoining full bath has a marble-tiled tub/shower and a quartz-topped vanity. A small, plant-filled sunroom off the living room has a glass-topped table and 4 chairs for enjoying sunny mornings and lunchtimes, and a door from the kitchen leads to a private back porch with an outdoor table and 4 chairs and hanging plants. No back yard. The top floor includes a study equipped with custom-built shelves and desk, 2 windows and a skylight. (This room could be used as a bedroom for a young child.) The large master bedroom features a king-size bed, 2 night-tables, antique dresser and chair, and custom-built bookshelves; the 2 windows look out toward the wooded slope of Belmont Hill. The adjoining full bath has a new tile bath/shower, custom-built vanity and shelves, a circular mirror, and a skylight. A laundry on this floor includes a new full-size washer and dryer. The house is located in a friendly, safe, and walkable neighborhood close to amenities, outdoor activities, and schools. Although we are in a quiet spot, it is only a 3-minute walk to Waverley Square (which offers a first-rate supermarket open daily 7 am-10 pm, bakery/café, post office, shoe repair, bicycle shop, dry cleaner, etc). Belmont Center and Cushing Square are each a 20-minute walk, with local restaurants, ice cream, gourmet grocers, cafés and boutiques. Five-minute walk to a large park with pickleball and tennis courts, a soccer field, and a children’s playground; ten-minute walk to the 59-acre Beaver Brook Nature Reservation, offering 59 acres of meadows and woodlands with mountain bike and walking trails, a pond and small waterfall, picnic areas, and a playground with wading pools and a spray deck. Living here is convenient with or without a car. There is a parking spot in the rear of the house, and another for visitors. It is a 20-minute drive to downtown Boston and less than 4 miles to either Harvard (Cambridge) or Tufts (Medford). Public transportation is excellent: the #73 bus to Harvard Square stops 2 minutes from our house and runs every 15-20 minutes till 1 am (trip takes 20 minutes). The Commuter Rail station is a 5-minute walk; the train takes 21 minutes to downtown North Station (connections to the Green Line and Logan Airport). Bike commuting to Cambridge is straightforward, with a bike lane on the primary route.
