N. Berkeley magical book-lined living space,garden courtyard, 4 blks to UC

We have a suite of rooms for rent in our Victorian house 4 blocks north of campus, around the corner from the restaurant Chez Panisse.The front room has  large windows facing east and 2 windows facing south but shaded by a giant cedar tree.  The back room has a private entrance and closet, two sets of drawers and a desk with lamp-a sort of mini-study cum dressing room. It  gives onto a limestone-lined bathroom with open shower, used solely by the tenant. Fully furnished. Towels and sheets are provided weekly. There is a pillar of books in the second room and the walls of both rooms are lined with books, as is the rest of the house, neatly arranged. There is a semi-private brick courtyard with cafe table and 2 chairs  (we use it as a passage to go to the kitchen with our shopping but we don't sit there).The front room has a queen sized European Sleepworks bed. The tenant has kitchen privileges in our fully equipped kitchen. Utilities and excellent internet (Sonic) included.  I am a widowed artist and children's book writer and illustrator living with my 30 year old son and a permanent tenant who is an architectural historian. I have various cooking projects ongoing in the kitchen-marmalade, jam making, putting up tomatoes in the summer-and so prefer tenants who do not cook very much. I am not a meticulous housekeeper and prefer tenants who don't mind comfortable clutter. There is a pleasant dense, rampant garden with a table, benches, lemon trees, fig trees, herbs and flowers (many hummingbirds!)  off of the kitchen which the tenant is welcome to use.  A quiet house lined with books. We keep the house cool and airy all year round.  High ceilings throughout the house.One block from the Cheese Board, North Berkeley Post Office, Safeway, public transportation, and restaurants of all sorts-and coffee houses! Only four blocks from the UC campus. Up the hill are parks and pleasant walks. No off street parking is available. Ours is a quiet house, but we like to have friendly conversations in the kitchen. We always respect their privacy. We have a washer and dryer on the premises and charge a small fee for using them. Nice cotton sheets and towels are provided. We subscribe, and are happy to share our subscription, to the TLS.
