I am a historian, filmmaker, author and journalist, currently affiliated as a fellow with The Warburg Institute, London University, researching and writing my fifth book for University of Pennsylvania Press. I am a roving academic and am often away in conferences giving lectures on early modern to modern Jewish history of the Near East. As a result when I am in London, I love spending time in our lovely home. We are looking for an academic/filmmaker/artist/professor/teacher/actor/musician/journalist--someone who would like to indulge in the artistic and studious atmosphere in the house. The common living space is huge, the house itself is on 4 floors with two landings stretching out into the garden. One feels the freedom of space and the privilege of privacy. A fabulous modern kitchen is well equipped with funky colourful mid-century utensils and spices from all over the world, a rustic wooden dining table with double glass doors opening fully into a mature, landscaped and deliberately maintained wild garden. A bit more about the layout and occupants: A double bedroom with 2 massive south facing windows in a 4-storey 6 bedroom 1880s terraced house in Highbury. Arsenal and Finsbury Park stations are each 7 minutes away, the latter also has extensive overground connections. It takes 15 minutes to get to Russel Square/London University campus. The room on the first floor has period features with a marble fireplace, kingsize bed, handmade desk and wardrobe, a chest of drawers, shoe rack, custom built bookshelves. All bed linen, desk lamp, office chair and bedside lamps are provided. The guest will have access to a huge open-plan double living room, brand new architect-designed modern kitchen, garden, family bathroom/toilet and a second toilet downstairs. The use of a bicycle is also possible. The rent includes all bills and council tax. Three of the 6 bedrooms are continuously lived in by me and my 15-year old son. My two older children have moved out but they have rooms in the house for when they visit. The 6th room is occupied by a postgrad student from Hamburg, who spends one week every month in the house while attending Queen Mary, London University, where she is doing a PhD.

Comments: The house is 7 min walk from two major train/underground stations. Eurostar trains are just a 5 min. journey by underground stations, Arsenal and Finsbury Park. The latter is also a great commuter station, with direct trains to Cambridge, Gatwick and Luton. The location also straddles the gentrified Highbury/Upper Street with designer stores, fresh fish, top rated restaurants, and the urban village of Stoke Newington, both walking distance away.
