Charming sanctuary off famed Smith Street

Enjoy living in my beautiful, harmonious, light-filled sanctuary just minutes from Smith Street in Collingwood, one of Melbourne’s most diverse and vibrant neighbourhoods. Trams, buses and trains will take you everywhere you need to go when you don’t feel like walking. The unit is a two-storey townhouse in a building with two other units and with a secured entrance at street level. You enter the unit on the first level where there are two bedrooms and a full bathroom. The smaller of the two bedrooms is set up for a restful sleep on a queen-sized bed, while the larger bedroom has a comfortable single bed, a desk, a piano, and a wall of books. Both rooms have walk-in closets that will be largely available for your personal effects during your stay. The top level offers a comfortable and cozy living, dining, and kitchen area, as well as a toilet/powder room. The open plan living area spills out onto a north-facing terrace set back from the street, offering privacy and views of an Edwardian-era heritage church complex. I’m a semi-retired theatre academic who spends 3-4 months overseas every year, typically during the Australian winter and early spring. I have spent much of my professional life between Southeast Asia, Europe, and Australia, and my home reflects this cultural fusion. I’m also an old-school audiophile so you’ll see there’s a large collection of vinyl, CD’s, as well as a Kawai electric piano with a stack of sheet music. I typically work from the desk in the back bedroom, where the indirect light coming from the alley provides just the right amount of brightness to work comfortably on a computer. The home is filled with art, including some museum-quality pieces, as well as a significant collection of tribal art and ikat from Sumatra, Sulawesi, Bali and Java. But don’t worry, I’ll put away anything that can break.
