Family-friendly house close to downtown and university

Our family will be spending the Fall 2026 semester on sabbatical, and our home is available for rent while we are away. We are in a quiet historic neighborhood an easy 5 minute walk from “Mass St”, the heart of downtown Lawrence, which includes many shops, restaurants, and activities. It is also a quick bus/bike ride to get to KU campus, or a longer walk (~20 minutes to the edge of campus). Our place would be perfect for a visiting researcher/nurse/doctor, or someone moving to town and looking for a short-term place to live while searching for their home. The house is available mid July 2026 through early January 2027, with some flexibility. Minimum 3 month rental. We are looking for someone responsible to care for the home while we are away and can be very flexible about furniture, timing, vehicles, etc. Just get in touch and let’s see what we can make work out! *Details:* * Furnishings: Comes fully furnished including beds, couches, chairs, tables, etc. We can store some furniture in the basement/garage if it’s not all needed. * Kitchen: Modern eat-in kitchen with all necessary plates, utensils, etc. Appliances include a large fridge, gas oven/stove, modern dishwasher, and sink with garbage disposal. * Kid friendly: We have two kids (kindergarten and second grade) so the house has lots of kid stuff (toys, kid size chairs/plates, etc.). We can leave that for you if you’d like, or box it up and put it in the basement if you don’t have kids. Also happy to share our recommendations about schools and best kid activities if you are bringing kids along! *Bedroom details: 1. Downstairs master bedroom (queen bed), lots of light and spacious full master bathroom + walk-in closet. 2. Upstairs bedroom (2x twin beds), currently set up for a shared kids bedroom but could be adjusted. 3. Upstairs bedroom (queen bed), currently used as a guest room and also has a small desk to function as a home office. 4. Upstairs ‘den’ - technically this is considered another bedroom, though we use it as more of a family/TV room. *Bathroom details: 1. Downstairs master bathroom, full bath including shower, tub, double sinks, walk-in closet with washer/dryer. 2. Upstairs full bathroom with combined shower/tub. 3. Downstairs half-bathroom between kitchen and living room. * Outdoors: House is on a safe and quiet street with lots of mature trees and historic homes in Old West Lawrence - the most beautiful neighborhood in Lawrence! There is an unfenced yard. There is a detached garage/off-street parking zone and plenty of street parking in front of the house. * Transportation: The house is near several bus stops. We can also rent you our car and/or bikes while we are gone for an additional fee - please reach out if interested!
