Live in the heart of urban Montreal! Our 140-year-old home is a row house that is typical of the Plateau area. It has the classic Montreal curling metal staircase in the back. Our home is on two floors, with back yard and green alley (ruelle verte) in the back. The home has a kitchen with a gas stove, living room/dining room on the first floor and 3 bedrooms on the second floor (set up as 2 bedrooms and an office). Currently, the children's bedroom has a loft bed for our older child and a bed on the floor for our younger one. We're happy to move things around, if we can, to accommodate your needs. There are two bathrooms, each with a shower, one with a tub. One bathroom was redone last year. The house has a modern feel, with hardwood floors throughout. It is well insulated for winter with central air conditioning for summer. We have excellent unlimited high-speed wifi. The cost of wifi, heat/electricity is normally less than $100CAD/mo. You can pay those bills directly or we're happy to work out a favourable price based on our rates. We have a balcony in back and a lovely patio/garden on the ground floor, which is large for this area of the city. It gives out onto a tranquil green alley that is unpaved and filled with trees - it's a real gem in the heart of the city! It's oasis of green full of squirrels, birds, and other critters. The location is fabulous for transit, walking to Place des Arts, the Plateau, St Denis/St Laurent. We're next to Parc la Fontaine where there are free shows at the outdoor theatre all summer and skating/cross-country skiing in the winter. You can see the weekly summer fireworks from our roof, or it's a short walk south to watch them with the crowds on the bridge. A superb community centre around the corner has a public library, gym, pool, and lots of classes for all ages (plus, a subsidized summer camp for kids). An indoor arena has free skating and skating classes for kids. A lovely primary school is on our block, a couple minutes walk (without needing to cross a street). We're close to many small parks, fantastic restaurants and cafes. We'll make you a list of our favourites. We're a few minutes walk to groceries, butcher/cheese shop, fruit/veg store, a hardware store, and pharmacy. We're next two of the best French-language theatres in Montreal (Prospero and Usine C) and close to Janine-Sutto Centre with free dance, theatre, and music shows throughout the year. It's an easy walk to UQAM, walkable to McGill. We're next to the 24 bus that runs along Sherbrooke street, and goes directly to the metro, McGill, and Concordia. We're 10-15 minutes walk from the Orange and Green line metros. We bike everywhere (there are bixi stations at the top and bottom of our block). We don't have a car, but we do have a 3-season parking spot that you can use on occasion (if you rent a car, like we do sometimes). If you own a car, you can get a permit to park in front of the house on the street. Things to note: We have a renter on the third floor who is kind and quiet. He can help out, if you ever need it, but otherwise you won't likely see him. We are across the street from a hospital, but ambulances must turn off their sirens blocks away so we never hear them. Happy to supply more photos on request.
