Our home is a quiet, comfortable base for a sabbatical in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley, just a short drive from downtown Healdsburg. It’s set on a peaceful country road surrounded by vineyards, oaks, and hills – close enough to town for daily life, but far enough that nights are dark and quiet and you can actually hear the owls. The house is fully furnished and set up for a working academic and/or family. There is reliable high-speed Wi-Fi, a dedicated workspace with a proper desk and office chair, good task lighting, and plenty of outlets. It’s an easy place to write, grade, prepare lectures, or do remote meetings. Cell service is solid, and video calls work well from multiple rooms. The living areas are light-filled, with large windows looking out to trees and the surrounding hills. The kitchen is fully equipped for real cooking (electric range, full-size fridge, microwave, Nespresso and all the usual pots, pans, and utensils). There is a dining area for family meals or dinners with visiting colleagues. Bedrooms are comfortable with quality mattresses and linens, and there is ample closet space for longer stays. One bedroom can easily function as a second study or guest room if you prefer more work space. Bathrooms are clean and modern with plenty of storage. Outside, there is a patio, a deck and seating area under the oaks – a nice spot for morning coffee, late-afternoon reading, or a glass of Dry Creek wine at the end of the day. The yard is usable but informal, better suited to kids exploring than manicured lawns. At night, the stars are visible, and traffic noise is minimal. Healdsburg itself has grocery stores, cafés, restaurants, a library, and all basic services. The house is within easy driving distance of multiple universities and colleges in the Bay Area and Sonoma. On weekends you can explore local wineries, hike in nearby regional and state parks, or take day trips to the coast, Russian River, or San Francisco. The home is well-suited for a single scholar, a couple, or a small family. We’re used to living here with children, so it’s functional for family life (washer/dryer, basic kid-friendly dishes, etc.), though it is not “childproofed” in a museum sense. A car is strongly recommended; this is rural wine country and public transport is limited. Rent includes furnishings, kitchenware, and basic utilities (details can be discussed). We’re looking for responsible, non-smoking tenants who will treat the house and neighbors with respect and enjoy the chance to live in Dry Creek as more than just tourists. Happy to answer questions about commuting, schools, or the local area for colleagues planning a longer stay.
