I'm Jonathan, a Professor of Methodology at the London School of Economics, embarking on an extended sabbatical through September 2026. My research on police legitimacy and procedural justice takes me around the world, and I'm seeking thoughtful home exchanges with fellow academics or professionals who appreciate both intellectual stimulation and cultural immersion. My ideal sabbatical itinerary includes: Cape Town (December 2025 - January 2026): Hoping to escape London winter while working on comparative research at the intersection of policing and social movements Sydney (March - May 2026): Continuing research collaborations while experiencing Australian autumn New York City (June - August 2026): Finalizing book manuscripts with access to NYC's incredible academic resources I'm also genuinely open to other exciting locations, particularly university cities with strong research communities. Whether it's Berlin, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, or somewhere unexpected—I value intellectual vibrancy, cultural depth, and good coffee shops for writing as much as specific geography. My home at 8 Eden Way in East London is genuinely special—a modern 2-bedroom flat in an award-winning development that perfectly balances peaceful living with urban excitement. You'd be right next to Victoria Park (213 acres of green space) yet minutes from Hackney Wick's creative quarter with its canal-side studios, galleries, and weekend markets. The Olympic Park is practically on your doorstep. The flat features a dedicated workspace perfect for academic visitors, flooded with natural light—I've written some of my best work here. It's that rare London find: architecturally striking, genuinely quiet, yet connected to everything. The Overground station nearby gives you direct access to all London universities and the British Library. The neighborhood offers both the creative energy of East London and the residential calm needed for focused work. I understand the challenges of finding the right environment for sabbatical work—you need more than just accommodation. You need a real home where you can think, write, and live well. My flat offers this in one of London's most culturally rich neighborhoods, from morning runs in Victoria Park to evening discoveries in Hackney's hidden restaurants and bars. I'm particularly interested in connecting with fellow academics or creative professionals who value their living space as much as their work. Having spent research periods in various cities, I know how much the right home matters for productivity and well-being. I take excellent care of spaces and would love to exchange with someone who shares this approach. While I have target cities and dates, I'm genuinely flexible and excited about unexpected possibilities. Partial exchanges, overlapping stays, or creative arrangements all welcome. Perhaps you're a Sydney academic wanting to experience London during your winter break, or a New Yorker curious about East London's creative scene, or someone in an entirely different city I haven't yet considered. If you have a comfortable home in an interesting city and are drawn to experiencing London from an insider's perspective—living in an architectural gem with immediate access to both peaceful green spaces and cutting-edge culture—I'd love to hear from you. Let's create an exchange that enriches both our sabbaticals.
