I'm a writer who goes back and forth between New York and Paris and I'm looking for someone who might like to stay in my room while I'm gone. The house is a two-level, ground-floor apartment in a beautiful Victorian brownstone with some truly magnificent doors and windows. We have a washer/dryer in the basement, and a big, light-filled living room and full kitchen on the second floor. The backyard is ours, and we grow herbs and tomatoes and things, so if you've got a green thumb of any description, that’s splendid! There's also a barbecue we pull out in the summertime. I have four roommates, all of them very warm and creative -- working in children's book publishing, film, pastry making, and one getting her writing MFA. It's generally all women, mid 20s to late 30s, and we'd probably like to keep it that way. Everyone's got their own room, but we hang out a fair bit. We're all big readers, into art and music and gardening; our outings are usually to theaters and/or restaurants. If you come stay, you're more than welcome to join! The neighborhood really does feel like a neighborhood—there are block parties in the summer, and some community centers nearby. There's a wine shop and a good bookstore on the corner, a lovely cafe at the end of the block, and a festive park just a few blocks up the road. We're also a five-minute walk to a big grocery store on Fulton. The apartment is 10 minutes from the Nostrand A and Kingston/Throop C stops, and about 15 minutes from the Bedford/Nostrand G stop. My room has lots of books, a piano, a desk, a reading chair, and a printer. It opens right onto the garden and I love to leave the door open while I'm working in the summer. There are two kinks: I use a spaceheater during the winter and the wifi in my bedroom generally isn't strong enough to take calls but is strong enough for everything else. Let me know if you're interested or have any questions!

Comments: This room has a space heater rather than a formal heating system. It's an independent structure built onto the home (which has normal heat) -- for me this gives it the cozy feeling of a cabin out in the woods, but definitely worth noting!
Comments: My room opens directly onto the backyard. My roommates don't use it too much and not at all during the winter, so it really does feel like your personal patio. I like to read there with a coffee in the morning!

Comments: Our landlord personally restored the home with plans to live there with his family one day, so it's really stunning! The sofa is so perfect for reading and my desk is quite deep, which makes it wonderful for writing.
