We are retired professors of history, who want to make our home available to academics looking for affordable housing for a sabbatical, research trip, faculty exchange, or writing retreat in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is located within easy walking distance from UNM's Main Campus, Law School, and Hospital/Medical School. Our home is fully furnished and easy to maintain. The most attractive room for writers and scholars is the office/retreat at the back of the house. Windows on three sides let the light flood in and offer views of our back yard/desert garden. A desk, writing table, printer, as well as dictionaries and other reference books make the office/retreat ideal for the person working on a writing or research project. The house is located in the historic Nob Hill neighborhood, just two blocks from Central Avenue, where one can find interesting dining, entertainment, cultural, and socializing options. Yet, tucked away on a non-through street, this home offers a quiet sanctuary for reading, writing, and reflection. It's about a 25-minute drive to hiking trails in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains or to the Bosque, a wooded area with trails along the Rio Grande River. Nothing is very far away--shopping options are just minutes away. Although the house itself is small, it can readily accommodate an individual, a couple, or a small family. There is only one bathroom, which might be a drawback, but in every other respect, it offers comfort, a family feel, and all the appliances one expects. The desert plants in the back yard offer food and refuge to a variety of birds--from delicate hummingbirds to roadrunners. Whoever stays in this house is not responsible for upkeep of the front yard or back yard; once a month, a lawn crew will take care of weeds and leaves and general cleanup. Neighbors are friendly but not intrusive. Runners and walkers will enjoy using the streets for regular workouts. Anyone coming to Albuquerque will also want to take advantage of all that The Land of Enchantment has to offer--from lovely Santa Fe to charming Chimayo, and all the natural wonders the state has to offer. Having a home base in Albuquerque makes numerous destinations accessible within a day's drive.
