The perfect place to think, read and write

Our house on the mainland of Orkney in Scotland has a breathtaking vantage point overlooking the Atlantic. It has underfloor heating, Aga, shower, hip baths, comfy beds, fresh linen, fibre wifi, film projector and delightfully quirky interior design. It would make a wonderful base for working on a book or serious project. Style: The house is eccentric and lovely. You could see it as a cross between a glamping barn, a country home and a Spanish galleon. Over the years we have been very happy here with our families and children of all ages. Activities: To refresh the mind and soul -- this place is rich in neolithic history; viking legends; natural wonders and delicious food and drink -- and it is a base for wild swimming, fishing, rock climbing; walks; cycling and island-hopping. Accommodation: Suitable for one person/couple but also very comfortable for up to three couples with children. There is little sound insulation but three families can each have their own quarters. Everyone, however, has to share the same large bathroom/shower area. Warnings: (i) Not suitable for wheelchairs or anyone with mobility difficulties regrettably. There are some tricky staircases and narrow passages. (ii) Fire hazard. There are two wood-burning stoves and much of the house is made of wood. We have new carbon monoxide detectors and fire alarms but good care is needed. Finally: Orkney is a friendly community and a magical, unforgettable place.
