Welcome to our Serene 2BR Garden Apartment in a friendly, walkable, West Berkeley neighborhood nestled between San Francisco and the best of the vibrant East Bay. Immerse yourself in local culture with fabulous restaurants, shops, markets, dance and yoga studios, art galleries, makers’ spaces and parks all just steps away. Your upstairs dwelling hosts, Shira and Rumen, are internationally renowned musicians, cultural workers and longtime Berkeley residents.Our classic 1919 Berkeley bungalow underwent major renovations in 2021, including thoughtful upgrades to our guest quarters. The garden-level apartment features a fully furnished open plan living/dining and kitchen area, creating a comfortable and welcoming space for relaxation and conversation. The primary bedroom offers a queen-sized bed with a Novaform Comfort Grande mattress. The secondary bedroom, with a comfortable full-sized futon couch, doubles as a home office with French doors that open to a delightful, sunny backyard pollinator garden. Conveniently located just across the street, the friendly Franklin Brothers neighborhood corner market offers a delightful selection of locally roasted coffee, fresh baked goods, house-made soups, salads, sandwiches, and a well curated variety of healthy produce and groceries, wine, beer, and basic pharmaceuticals. The market is open daily from 8 am to 8 pm, making it a convenient stop for your daily needs. Rest assured, you'll have the entire apartment to yourself as a private and cozy retreat. The laundry room (shared with your hosts) is accessible through a separate entrance off the front yard, Additionally, the backyard and patio are shared common spaces where you can unwind and connect with your hosts and other guests. We like to meet and greet our guests upon arrival to give them a quick tour of the space and answer any questions. After that, we honor and respect your privacy, but are always available should any concerns or needs arise. We very much appreciate it if you can tell us your estimated arrival and check-out times. This helps us with our scheduling of deep cleanings between guests. This is a ground floor in-law unit in our two-story home with excellent sound mitigation between the units. You may occasionally hear sounds of life and footfall from your hosts residing on the upper floor, or occupants of the adjacent studio apartment. Additionally, our house is located 8 blocks from the Berkeley Amtrak station, and train whistles can be heard from time to time. For light sleepers, we provide earplugs to ensure a peaceful night's rest. Most Wednesday evenings from 7-10 pm, Rumen leads a Balkan folk music ensemble class in our upstairs living room. Many of our guests thoroughly enjoy this unique peek into our musical lives. However, if you require absolute peace and quiet on Wednesday evenings, we kindly suggest considering alternative lodging options.
