I'm offering a home for rent @£65 max per night (all inclusive. Rent negotiable for students and independent scholars). The house is available over the autumn-winter period annually to writers, artists, scholars or anyone seeking a creative retreat or a workshop space. This could be for periods of a week, a fortnight or a month. Based in the Welsh village of Ystradgynlais, Powys, this is the erstwhile family home of my late husband, the George Orwell and Marxist scholar, Dr. Philip Bounds. You can find more information about his work through the link below. https://philipbounds.wordpress.com/ The nearest railway station is Neath from where the house is a 15-20 minute bus or taxi ride away. A pick-up from Neath can be requested beforehand. Swansea, the nearest large city by the sea with the stunning Gower peninsula, is a half an hour car ride away and there are also frequent buses running both to Swansea and to the Brecon Beacons – another area of outstanding natural beauty. The house has 2 double bedrooms with a provision for adding floor beds for additional sleeping arrangements if required. It can thus accomodate a couple in each bedroom or two individuals in each and a floor bed (or two) can be provided for two other people. In total this means that 5 people can stay in the house (if two couples book) OR 3-4 individuals can stay at a time. There is a large shared bathroom and an additional outdoor (but easily accessible) toilet. It offers a homely space to write, read, think and relax. There are small and large writing desks, ergonomic chairs, armchairs, rugs and cushions and a rich and interesting collection of books. There is uninterrupted Wi-Fi. The house has a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering and a large and beautiful back garden with seasonal herbs, berries and apples. It sits along the fishing Tawe River in the scenic and historic mining village of Ystradgynlais, the gateway to the Brecon Beacons. Its large windows offer pleasing views of Gorsedd Park and surrounding hills and it is close to cycling and walking paths. This charming stone house retains its heritage value while being fully modern. Just round the corner are a range of trendy and traditional cafes, bakeries, takeaways, restaurants, pubs and convenience stores. Dr. Adrija Dey, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Westminster, recently conducted a week-long writing workshop at the house and says she can’t wait to be back! Her colleague, Tanroop Sandhu, (PhD candidate at Queen Mary University) writes: “A lovely space that is cosy, well-located, and feels like home. I had a great and productive time at Daisy's and can wholeheartedly recommend it" For booking and enquiries please contact me at daisyhasan@gmail.com Ph: +44 (0) 7747847342 Dr. Daisy Hasan
