A pretty, high-ceilinged Victorian flat less than a minute’s walk to the tube, with excellent public transport links and amenities. Perfect for academics and writers. Small but perfectly formed so only suitable for 1 person. It comprises one double bedroom, a sitting room with sofa and fold-away dining table that also serves as a desk (no sofa bed, this flat is bijou!), a pretty bathroom (with a good shower and a lovely deep bathtub), a neatly fitted galley kitchen, with a gas cooker and hob, microwave, washing machine and fridge-freezer. The boiler supplies oodles of hot water and very efficient heating, should you need it. There is also a large roof terrace with dining table and chairs, and a hammock, which is perfect for sunny evenings, or for breakfast al fresco. I live on a main road in central London with lots of traffic and bars, so please be prepared that this is proper city living, not a quiet residential road. The flat is on the 1st floor (that is the '2nd floor' to those from the US!), located above a shop. The British Library takes 30 minutes, door to door, as do UCL and UCH. The BBC (White City and Media Village) takes about 20 minutes to walk to (or there are several buses) and the BBC New Broadcasting House takes 30 minutes door to door. Imperial College is an easy commute (30 mins) via tube, or a lovely 45-minute stroll through the parks. I can help out with routes to many other colleges etc, so please get in touch if you have any queries. There are also good bus connections to central London, as well as to Chiswick, Acton and Kew. Shepherd’s Bush is a really fun, vibrant area of London. There are scores of great restaurants, bars and shops a very short walk away, including a late-night grocery shop, open 7 days a week, and one of London’s most iconic street markets just across the road, for excellent fruit and veg shopping. Westfield London shopping mall is also a 5-minute walk away; it has a 16-screen cinema, supermarkets and restaurants, as well as shops. The Bush Theatre, a couple of streets away, has a dynamic programme, it also has a very cool bar and café (always full of freelance writers). There are also several music venues, including the 02 Empire and Bush Hall. The flat is a few minutes' walk from Shepherd's Bush Green, and Holland Park with its peacocks, café, and opera in the summer is a 20-minute walk away (or a short bus ride), or, in other directions, you can discover Ravenscourt Park or the River Thames at Hammersmith. Notting Hill is either a short bus journey or 2 tube stops away (or very walkable). Kew Gardens is easily accessible either by bus or tube (it takes around 30-40 minutes) and the Overground also means that Hampstead Heath only takes 23 minutes to get to on the train. The Hammersmith & City Line station (for the British Library, St Pancras, Paddington, UCL) is a 1-minute walk, which is a joy! The Central Line takes 7 minutes to walk to and the Overground is an 8-minute walk. The 94 bus goes 24 hours a day, from just outside my flat, via Notting Hill and Oxford Street to Piccadilly, which makes coming home at night super easy. It is very easy to get to my place from Heathrow on public transport. Gatwick is also easily accessible via the Overground (changing at Clapham Junction) and the Eurostar is just one tube journey away. City Airport is on the other side of London, but actually the journey to and from it is easy. The flat is perfect for 1 person; sadly my lease doesn't allow any pets. The bed has a footboard, so anyone over 6’2” may find it too short. Only non smokers please and absolutely no drugs! This is my home, not a permanently rented apartment or hotel, so I want to let it to people who will take care of it and enjoy it with respect, thank you. Usual minimum of one-month stay, although I would consider two weeks (at £550 per week).
