Enjoy this spacious, cozy and peaceful garden cottage!:) The cottage is separate from our house, 600sq feet with a front door, enclosed porch, and it’s own back door with a little porch and steps leading into the quiet backyard with trees, and also warm sunshine before sunset. Flowers, trees and a lemon tree surround the cottage. The cottage is fully furnished, quiet and full of light. The kitchen is completely renovated, with new cupboards, counters and appliances. All of the wood floors and kitchen/breakfast nook/boot room (near back door) floors are new. The bedroom and living room are spacious, and there are lots of windows throughout the cottage. There is a new queen sized bed in the bedroom, along with a new area rug on part of the wood floor, an armoire for hanging clothes as well as a couple shelves and a couple drawers, and a comfy chair for reading and relaxing. There is room under the bed for storage too. There’s a table in the kitchen nook, and a dining room table as well as a futon sofa bed, and a comfy chair in the living room. There’s also a closet for hanging more clothing, as well as shelves above, in the living room. The bathroom has a shower/bathtub. There’s a little bonus room just inside the back door. All utilities are included, as well as wifi. Free parking is available on the street. My husband and I live in the main house with our 10yr old gentle and friendly German Shepherd, Bella. She loves to welcome any guests! I am a Berkeley native- born and raised here. I’m happy to give whatever help or advice I can to travelers. I love to travel myself and have lived in Bordeaux, and also in Strasbourg France. I was premed, but ended up getting my BM in piano performance from UCSB, and my MM in piano performance and pedagogy from Northwestern University. I enjoyed the jazz and classical music scene in Chicago, as well as Evanston hospital where we first met our now 27 year old first born son. I also thoroughly enjoyed the farmlands and kind people while living in Hershey, PA for 4 years. I speak French and have found that useful while traveling around Europe and also while volunteering in an orphanage in Haiti. I’ve studied German but am very rusty at it. My husband (born in Canada, & grew up in San Diego, CA) speaks Spanish, and spent his University junior year abroad studying at the University of Madrid and also the conservatory there (classical guitar). We continue to love traveling, eating good food, studying & learning, music, health & fitness, and all kinds of people. I love gardens, flowers, fresh produce and also hosting guests! Albany is a “walker’s paradise!” Walkscore has deemed Albany (score of 86), San Francisco (85), and West Hollywood (89) the best walking cities in the state! Albany is a terrific place for walking because of the proximity to libraries, schools, grocery stores and parks. It’s also very bikable! Our Albany home is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, between Berkeley and El Cerrito, near Oakland and Emeryville, and a short Bart ride or drive across the bay from San Francisco. Just a walk around the corner is the famous Solano avenue, with a wide variety of delicious restaurants and cafes, ice cream shops, shopping, a post office, nursery for plants with a quaint cafe, and more! The BART station is a 1 mile walk from our house. Trader Joe’s, weekly farmer’s markets, Sprouts & Safeway are each a 13-15 min walk away (0.6-0.7 miles), and Whole Foods is a 0.9 mile walk. The 72 bus stop is a 3 minute walk from our home, and students can travel 20-25min by bus to UC Berkeley (3.4 miles away), or bike to campus. Furthermore, the Albany beach and waterfront trail are a 1 mile walk away, The beautiful wooded Albany Hill Park is 0.5 mile away and feels a world away with peaceful benches and beautiful views of SF & the Berkeley Hills.
