In the New Zealand summer the house operates as a bed and breakfast inn. In the winter it is a cozy place for those who want to study, do research at the Turnbull Library or Archives New Zealand or have time to write or relax. This is a big Victorian house with lots of bookshelves and a resident dog named Bob. It is next to the city's green belt. Walk to the top of Mt Victoria in about 20 minutes - or down to the beach at Oriental Bay in about half an hour. Downtown and the Te Papa national museum are walkable. A local No 2 bus can bring you from near the airport, the railway station and bus depot. Courtenay Place, with bars, restaurants and theatres is a walk of 10 minutes - through a safe area with Victorian, Edwardian and deco buildings. The Massey Campus and Victoria University's Design School are only about 10 minutes' walk. Victoria University's Pipitea Campus is about half an hour's walk - or you can go by bus. Victoria's Kelburn campus is uphill - so a bus from Courtenay Place is the easiest way to access it from here. The kitchen is fully equipped. The laundry has big Miele washer and heat-pump drier. The rooms have units that work as heaters and air conditioners. The house has a big deck at the back that faces north - our sunny side - and looks over to the green belt and towards downtown.
