My home is located in the popular Dunedin suburb of Maori Hill. The house is built on a hillside and has stunning views of the nearby hills and mountains, including Mt Cargill. It is quiet, private, and very sunny. There is a heat pump/air conditioner upstairs in the living room and another in the downstairs hallway. Double-glazed windows also keep the house warm. The large master bedroom has a super-king-sized bed (183cm x 203 cm) and folding doors that open to the downstairs deck. The other two bedrooms have California-king-sized beds (203cm x 203 com). All three bedrooms have ample closet space. The house has a large bathroom downstairs and a second one upstairs. Both have showers; the downstairs bathroom also has a separate bathtub. The house includes a small room set up as an office. There is a secluded deck/patio on the side of the house surrounded by gardens; another deck upstairs off the living room; and a huge deck downstairs in the back of the house with fantastic views, outdoor chairs, and a BBQ. The home is next to a park, and native birds are usually abundant, including bell birds, tui, and kererū. The use of my car can be arranged. Maori Hill is a lovely and safe neighbourhood. There are cafes and restaurants nearby in the centre of Maori Hill. Great walking trails are also close by. The start of the Ross Creek Reservoir Forest Track is about a seven-minute walk from my house. A golf course is also an easy walk nearby. It takes approximately 30 minutes to walk to the centre of Dunedin, but the walk back up the hill is fairly steep. There is a bus stop nearby that will take you into the centre of Dunedin and beyond. It only takes about 5 minutes to drive to the centre of Dunedin and to the University of Otago. Popular attractions in Dunedin include Toitū Otago Settlers Museum (focus on social history of the region), Tūhura Otago Museum (natural, cultural and scientific stories of Otago, Aotearoa New Zealand and the world), Dunedin Art Gallery, University of Otago, Forsyth Barr Stadium (for sporting and cultural events), Olveston Historic Home, Otago Harbour cruises, and the historic train station and Taieri Gorge train. The spectacular Otago Peninsula is also nearby, and tours can be arranged to see penguins on the Peninsula or visit the famous Royal Albatross Centre and Larnach Castle. Dunedin is an excellent location to explore the lower part of the South Island. It is about 3.5 hours to popular locations in the Southern Alps, notably Queenstown, Wanaka, and Arrowtown. I am a historian at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. I recently became an independent scholar when I retired from teaching at the university. Since I now work on global topics and love to travel, I am very interested in exploring different parts of the world.
