Our apartment is part of the “Maison du Sénéchal” (House of the Seneschal), an historic building located in the Bastide Saint-Louis of Carcassonne famous for its Gothic architectural style. The building dates back to the 14th century, making it one of the few remaining medieval structures in the Bastide Saint-Louis. The 120 square meters flat is located on the second floor (with elevator) and it comes with a separated fully equipped kitchen, a large dining and living area, and 3 bedrooms. It combines historic charm with modern comfort, featuring contemporary design furniture within a beautifully preserved historical building. Located nearby shops and good restaurants, and only 1 minute walk from the covered market of Carcassonne where good food can be found. You enter the “Maison du Sénéchal” through a large imposing wooden door with pointed arches and decorative stone carvings. On the ground floor, a large hall paved with old stones brings you to a small, fenced garden shared with other appartement's owners. To access the second floor, you may use the elevator or a beautiful stone staircase in a medieval style. You enter the apartment trough a double-door leading to a small hall. On the right-side, is the fully equipped kitchen with its back office (electric oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and variety of small appliances including toasties-maker, blender, etc.). The hall connects to the large light and airy dining and living area with high ceilings, which is the heart of the appartement. The master bedroom located on the right-side of the leaving area has a queen size bed, and it also accommodates a baby bed and a desk. In that area is also located the bathroom (with a bathtub). Bedroom 2 and 3 can be accessed from the left-side of the leaving area. Both have a double bed with a large cabinet. They have their own entrance but are connected through a double sliding door which car off course be closed. We don’t have the TV in the apartment but we have a good selection of family board games and books. There is no internet access, but mobile phone works pretty well. There are paid parking places in our street, and large public parkings are available (5 minutes walk). Carcassonne Airport is no more than a 10 minute drive. The appartement is located in the Bastide Saint-Louis, the historic lower town of Carcassonne. It has mainly architectural highlights: the Saint-Vincent Church, the Halles (covered market), beautifully preserved renaissance and baroque-era buildings, the Place Carnot (central square surrounded by cafés, shops, and restaurants). The area is lively, with markets, shops, restaurants and local events that showcase the traditions and lifestyle of Carcassonne. Accessible by foot (15-20 minutes’ walk) is the Cité de Carcassonne, UNESCO World Heritage site. The Citée de Carcassonne is a breathtaking medieval fortress perched above the Aude River. It is known for its iconic double walls and fairytale-like towers, and it is one of the most visited sites in France. At the other side of the Bastide is the Canal du Midi (UNESCO World Heritage Site). It is perfect for cycling, walking, or boating along its tranquil, tree-lined paths. The area around Carcassonne is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a mix of natural beauty, history, and adventure. Nearby, Lac de la Cavayère offers swimming, paddleboarding, hiking, and even zip-lining. For history lovers, the region is dotted with stunning Cathar castles like Château de Lastours and Peyrepertuse. The beautiful Abbeys of Lagrasse and Fonfroide are at 1 hour drive. The Montagne Noire provides excellent trails for hiking, mountain biking, and exploring caves such as the Gouffre de Cabrespine. Wine enthusiasts can stroll through vineyards in the Minervois or Corbières regions, enjoying outdoor tastings amidst picturesque landscapes. Caracassone is also well known for its summer festival (dance, opera, pop music).
