Description

The house is located in a charming older neighborhood of pueblo-style homes nestled between mature desert greenways filled with Saguaro, Palo Verde, and Mesquite trees. Sweeping views of the Catalina Mountains from living room, master bedroom, studio and of course from our spacious deck. No stairs to climb, wheelchair friendly thresholds, walk-in/roll-in shower with grab bars. Carport. Bicycles. Quick access to the Rillito River trail and city bike loop. Minutes away from dining, entertainment, galleries, groceries, and two weekly farmers markets at St. Phillips Plaza and Rillito Park. Twenty minutes to the University of Arizona main campus and downtown Tucson. It’s a very pleasant commute by bicycle to the heart of campus via bike-friendly Mountain Ave or some choose the University commuter bus that stops down the hill at River Road and Via Entrada. Tucson, sometimes called "the Old Pueblo" is located in the Sonora desert of Arizona, a unique ecosystem with its own remarkable flora and fauna. It is a town with a distinctively western vibe, characterized by access to fabulous recreational destinations including Saguaro National Park (https://www.nps.gov/sagu/index.htm) Sabino Canyon (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g60950-d209268-Reviews-Sabino_Canyon-Tucson_Arizona.html) Mt Lemon Scenic Byway, and the birding paradise of Madera Canyon (https://www.visitarizona.com/places/parks-monuments/madera-canyon/). The region has close cultural and historical ties with Mexico evident at sites like Mission San Xavier del Bac, Mercado San Augustin https://mercadodistrict.com/ and the El Presidio historic district surrounding the Tucson Art Museum. We can warmly recommend the Tucson Art Museum as well as the sprawling and unique Sonora Desert Museum. The University of Arizona's Center for Creative Photography is also a terrific place. Medicine Man Gallery and Etherton Gallery top our list of favorite commercial galleries. I'm just mentioning a few of the intriguing places near us. I could target my suggestions better when I know something about my visitors! In the autumn, students and snowbirds swell Tucson's population and our entertainment choices expand exponentially. Cliff and I enjoy live music at half a dozen spots in town but there are many more. Century Room at the Congress Hotel https://hotelcongress.com/family/century-room/ ; Monterrey Court ; and the free nightly concerts hosted by Union Public House at nearby St. Phillips Plaza are some of our favorites. There are a dozen excellent local theaters like "The Rogue Theater" https://www.theroguetheatre.org/ "Arizona Theater Company" https://atc.org or near to home, "Live Theater Workshop." https://livetheatreworkshop.org/ Major winter events include The Tucson Jazz Festival tucsonjazzfestival.org in January, followed by our world-class gem show (fossils too) in February (https://www.tgms.org/show/) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSoKyCxYxHE) Also starting in February and running through March nearby Rillito Park hosts live horse racing. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSoKyCxYxHE) or if you prefer riding to watching, there are a dozen Tucson stables waiting to put you in the saddle. Year round weekend farmers market on Sundays at Rillito Park, just down the hill from our house.
